Imagery: The Californian's Tale

1. The scene that stand out in my reading is when the people in town be unite together to help to make party for Henry. It’s show that everyone in this town are get along together.

2. The scene that make me frightened is when I knew that Henry’s wife has been died nineteen years already. The moment when I’m angry is the moment when everyone is try to cover the truth about Henry’s wife, because if they continue do this Henry will never can accept the truth.

3. The moment when his friends made a party for Henry, and he’s drunk, then he slept.  I can smell the alcohol, I also can feel when the poor people drunk together. The author want us to feel how the people in the small town live, how they are live different from us.

4. I can understand the whole story, and it’s really fun for me. I’m pretty frightened with the rising action when I knew that Henry’s wife has been died for nineteen years, and  Henry has a unstable mind. This story is also different from other stories because almost every stories will have a happy ending, but this story has ended very sad. I think that I will never forget this story.

Point of View: The californian's Tale

1. Point of view use 1st person point of view. The narrator is the one who is the guest of the Henry.

2. The advantage of the first person perspective is that the author allow us to see what's going on in the story. And first person perspective can describe more about the feeling of the characters. It's can also tell us the story more fun.

3. The narrator is reliable. But the narrator has limited of knowledge and understanding of characters and events in the story, because he didn't know that Henry's Wife had been died for many years already and he believed Henry that Henry is waiting for wife, Henry just knew after Henry's friends told him. The narrator doesn't know everything about one character, if he could understand, he wouldn't believe Henry at the first time.

4. The author use the point of view to conceal the truth. The author just show the truth in the end of the story. He's unfairly withhold important information about the main character 'Henry'. The author just show the truth almost in the end of the story  that Henry has the problem about the unstable emotional.

Character:the californian's tale

1. The characters in this story are Henry, Joe, Tom, Charlie, and Narrator. But the main character is Henry. He's look like the old people that when we looked at him from outside, everything is okay, but the truth is inside he has very sad story that no one could heal him.

2. Henry lived in the house that very beautiful and decorate which his wife had decorated. Henry is living alone waiting for his wife to come back. Henry is dependent.

3. Henry's personality trait is that he has unstable emotion that he cannot accept that his wife had been died for nineteen years already. PLOT:THE CALIFORNIAN'S TALE

1.   The Californian's Tale is about a lone wanderer who stumbles into a strange little town somewhere in California. He realizes that this town is almost deserted with very few residents in the area. He stumbles into a house, in which a man welcomes him in as a guest and invites him to stay for a few days. The house is described as very beautiful and decorated, which the owner's wife had decorated. The owner of the house is very fond and speaks highly of his wife, he tells the visitor that she is on vacation for a while. Eager to introduce his wife, the owner insists the visitor wait until an upcoming Saturday which is when his wife would come home. The visitor decides to stay and meet the wife of the house owner. On Saturday, a big welcome back party takes place to welcome the wife back from vacation and the whole town gets together. Little does the visitor know that the man's wife has been dead for nineteen years already, and that the man is mentally unstable. Every year, the husband gets in a mind state that believes his wife is coming home from vacation and the whole town throws a party to help him believe his wife is still alive. This is because the man cannot cope with the loss of his wife and refuses to believe she is dead, so the whole town helps him with his dilemma every year.

2. This story is arranged in a chronological

3.They are flashback, back in the time when the people told a boy that his wife had been dead for nineteen years.

4. They occur in the low-paced.

5.His behavior really unstable that in every years, the husband still believe that his wife will be come back, so the whole town has to throws a party to help him believe his wife still alive.

6.      The conflict in the plot is all about the physical, and emotion. The man is believes that his wife will come back, so he is waiting for her every year. No one could make him to believe that his wife has died for nineteen years already. This conflict can’t resolve. The people in the town still have to continue do the same thing over and over the same thing. It’s also more subtle and complex than I thought before I finished reading.

7.The climax of the story is when he knew that the man’s wife has been dead for nineteen years already. The ending of the story is unhappy.

8.      These story also have the unity. All the people in the town help the man every year with his dilemma. It’s so obvious that this story teach us about the unity. This story also relevant to the total meaning of the effect because the man’s intellectual that he’s cannot accept what the truth is and effect is that he have to live like this for a whole life with the people in town to help in also. it’s not lead naturally to the next because a boy doesn’t knew that man’s wife has been dead for very long time he just knew from the people in the town afterward.

9.      The coincidence also occur in this story when the party for the man’s wife have to happen every year over again and again until the man will death. This make us complicate and surprise when we read through the story. It’s really improbable, because I think that the man will finally accept the truth, but at the end of the story he still can’t accept the truth
